Today’s theatre is on the site of a former military shooting range, which was rebuilt into a multi-purpose building called “Na střelnici”. The theatre hall was built here in 1868. The theatre acquired its current appearance during a comprehensive reconstruction after 1937. The grand opening took place on 1st February 1940 – when the National Theatre in Prague (with Václav Talich as the conductor) performed the Bartered Bride. Part of the theatre is an artistically valuable curtain, which was stored in the depository of the Prácheň Region Museum for more than seventy years. It was returned to its original place in the theatre in April 2006.
