Řežabinec and Řežabinecké pools educational nature trail and Špejchar Ražice Museum
The shallow Řežabinec pond was built in the former riverbed of the Otava River (in 1530) at the initiative of the Lord of Zvíkov Castle, Kryštof of Švamberk. The 550-meter-long dam creates a water area of 87 ha. In 1949, the uncleaned pond with its overgrown bank vegetation had already been declared a nature reserve for the protection of communities of aquatic plants and waterfowls.
Around the entire reserve there is a 3 km long educational nature trail with 12 information boards. In the eastern part of the pond there is a partly freely accessible observation tower, from which you can observe the surrounding nature. If you visit the site between April and June, you will have the opportunity to see the greatest number of birds. However, most bird species occur here in the autumn.
In the newly renovated building of the former granary in the village of Ražice u Písku, you can visit a permanent exhibition. The first section concerns the nearby Řežabinec National Nature Reserve and the Řežabinecké pools. The second part is dedicated to the railway due to the location of the village Ražice, which is located at the junction of two important regional railway lines: České Budějovice – Plzeň and Ražice – Tábor.
